Music video / 20 December 2020
Honolulu, Baby! is an animated music video for a cover of the eponymous song. The music recording was created in the summer of 2020, in honor of Stan Laurel’s 130th birthday.
The song was originally sung by Oliver Hardy, ukulele in hand, in Sons of the Desert in 1933. The cover and video were meant to honor T. Marvin Hatley, who provided much of Laurel & Hardy’s movies’ unmistakable charme with his brilliant compostions. The visual VHS style was deliberately chosen to give the song new life, by taking it out of its original context.
